Eulogy Example - My son

My friend John, who has lived overseas for the last 4 years came to visit our family for a short while this year.  I hadn't seen John for years so he had not yet met my son Sammy who was then about two years old.  He was absolutely charmed by my son, as most people were.  Sammy, as most know, was 'All Boy' and a little monkey besides. He was constantly getting into mischief, taking the tops of containers, opening drawers, closing drawers, going in and out of rooms, closing doors, climbing stairs, climbing motorcycles, climbing anything, falling down, and then getting up again.

His joy in his adventures was infectious.  He would take the top off the laundry bottle, then look at you and give you an ear to ear grin that said, 'look what I'm about to do!'  If you were the one responsible for watching and taking care of him, you would find after thirty minutes, if Sammy was in a mischievous mood you would become quite tired.

One night John and I went into town and enjoyed several beers with a few of our mutual friends.  John woke up earlier than I did the next morning and found my wife and Sammy in the kitchen. He was so enthralled at Sammy's mischievous nature; he poured himself a cup of coffee and followed him around the house to observe his adventures.  John later would tell people "I followed him around the house for 30 minutes just to see what he would do! It was pure entertainment!" Sammy had this affect on people.

His love for life and joy in his adventures was infectious and made one feel the same love for life that he had. What made his adventurous nature even more charming was his ability to bounce back and quickly get back up again if he was hurt in one of his mis-adventures.  One day he was climbing the stairs in our house and fell through the rails, falling nearly 1 meter, crashing onto a wooden coffee table, before tumbling onto the floor. He cried and wailed for ten minutes but 11 minutes later he was off and running to his next adventure.

Sammy had a short life but a big impact on us all.  He never lost his lover for life or adventures even as he became sick. His spirit and smile and the memories of his adventures will be with us always.
